Six Pack Abs: Understanding them and how to tone them
By the tee_rex
You probably read the title of the post and wondering 'how else do i get six pack abs except sit-ups...'.Truth is you need sit-ups to build your abdominal muscles but the equation isn't complete,to be honest sit-ups only take up about 40% percent of the equation.
Ever heard of the saying 'abs are made in the kitchen' we'll come back to that in a moment, lets first educate eachother. There are four abdominal muscle groups:
1)Rectus abdominus ,which makes up the six pack seen in people with LOW BODY-FAT %, it enables flexing of the spine( movement of a sit-up or crunch.
2)External obliques,is used for twisting the trunk of your body ,for instance if you are twisting to the left you are using your right obliques and vice versa.
3)Internal obliques, are also responsible for twisting and turning ,but the other side of the movement. For example when you twist to the right, you are contracting both your right internal oblique and your left external oblique at the same time.
4)Transverse abdominis, which is very integral in holding up your entire abdominal structure together. It is located underneath your rectus abdominis and obliques.
So now I believe we now know that the abs are a lot of muscles and not one muscle that can be seen and built with cranking 1000 sit-ups...now back to revealing your abdominal muscles..its not only about sit-ups its about LOW BODY-FAT.
I see a lot of people wake up early and go for a jog to 'burn fat' but you're going to hit a fat burning plateau if u keep jogging with the same pace over the same distance.
True, you'll experience a tremendous rate of fat loss at first but you will have to change things up if you wanna keep seeing results; changing pace (increasing the pace at which you jog), extending the distance...
OR
You eat in a calorie deficit.
WHAT IS A CALORIE DEFICIT? Its any shortage in the amount of calorie consumed relative to calories consumed 4 maintenance of current bodyweight.
For example your body requires 3500calories for maintainance but you consume 1700-2000 calories creating a 1000 calorie deficit.
You also have to be careful with the latter because if you do it over a long period of time or starve yourself you'll lose a lot of proteins and that's bad...like really bad for any builder.
So,choose from any of the options above but do them in moderation and you'll be looking shredded in no time. I hope you found this post helpful you can always leave a comment and I'll get back to you.
Cheers!
