My shoulder injury and how I got past all the downs that came with it.

Anatomy of the human shoulder
Don't even know how to pronounce some of the names in this picture 😂😂😂.

If you noticed recently, I haven't been posting on this blog, in fact the last post; was on the 4th of May 2018.
Most people would think maybe I lost interest in the blog or I probably got too busy or...you know the list goes on and on! But in reality I THOUGHT I WAS DONE WITH FITNESS!

Yeah, I can almost smell the look on your face 😃! About a while back (approximately 2 months ago) when I was working on my handstands, I felt this tenderness; tightness if you like; in my left shoulder I thought it was just a minor thing until the next day when I was to work on pull-ups. No pain initially, but about 4 or 5 reps into the exercise (pull-up), I started to feel the tenderness again. This time I just went 'meh!' and continued with the exercise and then it got worse kinda like my shoulder bones were crushing some muscle or tendon in my shoulder.

I'm a bit stubborn, lol, so I just closed for the day and decided to try them (pull-ups) the next time it was back day. D-DAY; Back day! Again I tried and once again the pain pierced through my shoulder like a bullet went through and through! I got scared! At this point and with the progress I had made I couldn't just afford a slip up or a drawback, it would take weeks to heal if it was serious shoulder exercise.

So I decided to give my left shoulder a break (sort of...) Changed my workout program and decided I wanted to learn to do One Arm Pull-ups using my right hand while using the left for support if need be. I did this for some weeks; I also paid more attention to my abs (you know I kinna became a handicap 😂; no shoulder; no compond exercises, except for squats)

Days turned into weeks and one day I thought to myself, "hey why don't I try to use my left shoulder, it's been a while, it should be all healed up by now" . I was ULTRA wrong! Nothing has changed in terms of the pain, only this time it was more frustrating, I was very positive that all my shoulders needed was a little rest, some off time if you like!

The fact that my shoulder was bad and all I could do was to wait on it, made the wait more depressing!

At this point I thought about giving up! My dream has always been to be a pull-up king and now I can't perform 5 pull-ups without feeling UNCOMFORTABLE.

I tried to stay away from anything that would incorporate my shoulders (left shoulder to be precise). Nothing changed after a week or 2 and now I started to get worried; that was even the least of my problems as I had now concluded that I would never be able to achieve my goal of one day becoming a pull-up king. This period was very depressing for me, I was still stuck with Michael though, he was the only one who acted as some sort of motivation for me!

It really did feel like I sucked all that time I wasn't chasing my goals!

I had already given up hope of my shoulders becoming better, it was way past 5 weeks and "nothing" the pains were still as fresh as the first day; you don't want to know how worrisome that is. But you know what? I gave myself a chance, what if I'm never going to become a pull-up champion; I'm not going to let life put me down and stay down, the latter is up to me. At the end I had nothing more to lose so I decided to make some research about common shoulder pains and abnormalities accompanied with exercising.

Found out about TENDONITIS, BURSITIS and LABRUM TEAR which is common among weight lifters, professional athletes like rugby players (yeah! Pretty big words eh! Don't even know if I got them right. Good thing you don't have to memorize them 😂😂😂).

All those conditions listed above aren't that serious (at least I was able to breathe a sigh of relief). I went through a couple of online tests, diagnostics if you like; on .... and tested positive to all, lol (wasn't really able to narrow it down to one, and you're probably wondering why I didn't see a doctor or bone specialist and what not, the truth is I'm a broke ass nigga 😂 and the way things work in Africa...).So I did more research on all three of them. I visited sites like Clevelandclinic and athleanx to mention a few.

Seriously you don't know what you have until you lose it! Cherish and take care of what you have now; no matter how small or irrelevant you might think it is!

I'm a Christian and I believe in God, and when I noticed things might be headed south for me I decided to consult the GREAT PHYSICIAN. I had faith that everything was going to be fine after that, so I just went on and tried out what I had learned from my vast research online and guess what under a week what I had been battling for close to two months just seemed to heal itself.

Now this is isn't a religious post of any sort (doesn't change the fact that I'm proud to be the son of the most high God) in fact I'm not looking for any kind of pity or remorse, no! This post is the realeast post I've composed on this blog (all things considered) and it's purpose is to motivate someone out there is being held back by limitations. Guess what; the only limiits are the ones you create.

If things aren't going as planned or if you're at a point in your life where you're given another reason to give up, give yourself a reason to NOT give up! I doesn't have to be fitness related as the post suggests, you can apply it to any area of your life where you're having difficulties .

Science backed steps and how to relieve shoulder pains

Baseline, my shoulder is back and better and as much as I want to resume my former training programs, I cant. I'm still taking things slow so I don't overdo it like before, I was probably pushing myself too hard and my body had no choice but to react in such a way (another lesson: don't push yourself too hard!) I hope this post serves it's PURPOSE, and remember you're not alone, if there's no one there for you, go back to your creator it's his responsibility to be there for you when everyone turns their backs on you.

Until we cross paths again, I remain your one and only Tee Rex; let's get fit 💪💪💪
